💖 Washington Commanders | Hope Kit Building & Fundraiser for the National Breast Cancer Foundation
Some days remind you exactly why you started — and how lucky you are to choose how you spend your day, especially as a founder. Wednesday was one of those days.
Our recent event with the Washington Commanders and the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) at DC Prime Steak House was filled with connection, compassion, and purpose. Together, we built hundreds of Hope Kits — fulfilling boxes, requests, and hearts across the country.
Hope Kits are care packages filled with essentials, encouragement, and comfort for women undergoing breast cancer treatment.
Between the balloon installations (amazing work by Lucy Blossoms, as always 🎈) and lunch shared alongside oncology nurses from Johns Hopkins and Sibley, we were reminded of something powerful: the Golden Bond spark has always been about joy, connection, and care — for ourselves, for others, and for our community.
Golden Bond originated in New York City — an idea that sparked between myself and four of my closest friends, all of whom have spent their careers in a local hospital’s ICU. I haven’t personally lived through cancer, but the stories and experiences of those around me run deep.
I’ve attended chemotherapy sessions with a client to help with cold capping, shaved friends’ heads before treatment, and celebrated as their hair — and confidence — grew back stronger.
So to share lunch with nurses and volunteers while raising funds for NBCF felt profoundly meaningful. It was deeply immersive and hands-on: I spent part of the day labeling, folding tissue, stickering boxes, sealing them shut, and loading carts filled with care. Beth and Eryn helped the Commanders’ staff fold and prep boxes before the event even began.
We even got to weld chains for a cause — combining our craft with our hearts.
By the end, those Hope Kits were headed to women locally, in Texas, Pennsylvania, New York, and across the country.
To be in that tent, contributing to something that directly touches lives, was humbling and energizing all at once. I encourage everyone to experience it — get your hands in the work and feel what giving back really feels like.
